I always find January comical in the outdoor world. It is when athletes announce, "Their new favorite shoe company." It is like a carousel of one athlete jumping out of a brand and the next one literally filling their shoes. The outdoor space, sponsorship, and interest in it, is a business. It is also a hobby and leisure activity, but the business aspect is always lurking. You wouldn’t choose to buy “the least comfortable shoes” to walk around the block in. So even you, the casual walker, is the target of the outdoor industry marketing.
What’s happening this week?
I have announced my record attempt of the Appalachian Trail. Was the announcement to draw people to my YouTube channel? Was it to take away from athletes announcing their new shoe sponsorships? Or was it simply opening the door to share weekly videos about training and logistics surrounding such a large FKT? We may never know…
The plan is to ‘Power Hike’ the trail southbound starting in August and in a Self Supported manner. The time to beat is a little over 45 days and is held by Joe 'Stringbean' McConaughy. We have traded FKTs for five years now, which is about as long as I have been thinking about attempting this one!
Now, let’s get to what you should check out this week!

I made an announcement video of going for the Appalachian Trail record. It gives a little context and personal history as to why this is important and how long I have been thinking about it.
I also came out with the first in a series about training for the Appalachian Trail. This series will have an episode coming out every Wednesday.

A two-episode week (like every week)! The first one talks about how I approach big projects and my Ideas>Goals>Plans mentality.
Big Bend Recap! I do an episode where I weave in anecdotes and videos from our 5 days trip and exploration of Big Bend National Park over New Years. This is a fun one!
