Barkley Marathons?
The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart
I attempted them in 2021. I got all my pages, but finished much too slowly to be allowed to continue. Well, I actually was allowed to run them in 2020, but the race ultimately got canceled, much like all our goals. The same week I was supposed to be starting the Barkley Marathons, I ended up working at a grocery store. My life fell apart quite quickly.
2021 didn’t go very well. It rained a lot, I had never run a race over 50k, and I was way too nervous. Will this year go any better? Who even knows…
I am putting out a couple of different Barkley Marathons ‘Podcasts’ or Videos, both on YouTube, and anywhere you listen to podcasts, as a refresher of this unique event. One of the interviews is with the first finisher. Well, the first FUN RUN finisher, Frozen Ed Furtaw. This happened before a 100-mile option was even created at the unique Frozen Head State Park event. He also has a book “Tales From Out There” if you are of the reader sort.
So, while I question my own decisions, you can watch the Black Canyon 100k Coverage and refresh Keith Dunn’s twitter account for updates.
I am better prepared than before, but mentally I am not all the way back after the Appalachian Trail, so we will see what happens Out There.
